Located in Franklin County in southwest Mississippi, the Homochitto Heritage Club began as the Franklin County Junior Woman's Club in 1971. The Franklin County Woman's Club sponsored the organization and charter of the junior club. As members of the junior club reached the maximum age requirement, the members voted to become a federated woman's club and changed the name to The Homochitto Heritage Club in honor of the Homochitto National Forest which is prevalent in Franklin County.
The Homochitto Heritage Club is a service oriented organization. The membership is limited to twenty members. This keeps each member actively involved with the projects and the programs. Since a majority of money collected from fund-raisers and projects comes from the citizens of Franklin County, one of the club's philosophies is to keep the money in Franklin County. Some of the larger examples of this are:
- To provide a Franklin County High School senior with a college grant, the club has sold Community Birthday Calendars for over twenty years. Last year Homochitto Heritage Club provided two $500.00 scholarships.
- Every May we have the "Ducks on the Homochitto" race. Businesses contributed to the prize list, making this a joint effort of club and community.
- To provide funding for Community projects.
- Donate to the Natchez Children's Village
- Support Red Ribbon Week
With the hope and desire to better Franklin County and it's citizens, many women, past and present members, have given their time, talents, and money.
